Zoom Marathon.

A lovely Zoom session yesterday that went all day. I grabbed my basket of reproduction fabrics, 1/2" hexies, needle, thread, scissors, glue & set about making diamonds. I made 9 during the day & started a 10th afterward but quit that as i was so tired. :)

It was so nice to see  the regulars on Zoom along with a few new people. Thanks Chooky for a lovely day. :)

FNSI January

An early start to FNSI yesterday. 3 little Christmas stitcheries had made it to the start of the queue. They were free back in 2019 from Joy. Not sure why i never put them together as it wasn't a big project. :)

also at the start of the pile was a random block. I think it was one of 3 i had started making for a Moda quilt many years back but abandoned to make other things. :). The block was turned into a cushion cover. Hmm must find the others & either make them into floor mats or European size cushion covers.
This block was the smallest of the 3 i made.

Next up i looked out all my greens for this month Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I gad planned on making a circle quilt & a basket quilt this year & they are my challenge blocks for this year.
Prepped ready to stitch. 6  blocks of each.
5 blocks done.

Pop over here to see who joined in last night. Thanks for hosting us again Wendy.

Sunbonnet Sue....

 .... is a wrap.

but i still need to find a frog button to go with the Sunbonnet Sue in the bottom right corner. I went looking for photo's to see when i made the Sue blocks but it was a bust. Certainly before i started blogging back in 2009. I looked in the pattern book & it was printed 2005. So i'm guessing i made them around that time

and i made 9 more little blocks yesterday. I'm  blaming it on the heat for addling my brain to even attempt these blocks. :)

Christmas hanging & 9 patches

Sunday i started out putting together 6 stitcheries that were stitched before Christmas from Gail Pan. I only manged to piece 3 of them before number 1 GS arrived to mow the lawn & the 4th before number 2 GS arrived to stay the night. Trying to sew around grandchildren is a bad idea, especially when number 1 GS takes to your pattern with the rotary cutter which had just had a new expensive blade put in. Grr. Luckily the pattern is a PDF so i can reprint that cut page.

Today i set to & pieced the remaining 2 blocks & put the top together.

Now to decide if i want to quilt it or to see if my lovely quilter will do it as she has better ideas for quilting than i do. :)

Crazily i've decide to join reproquiltlover in making 9 patch blocks over on Instagram. Taryn is making the 1-1/2" blocks but like most of the people sewing along i went with 3" blocks.
I made 15 today using scraps from my reproduction fabrics. And just because i could i did make a teeny tiny one. :)
1-1/2" beside the 3" for comparison. I may make some more of the tiny ones to make a doll quilt as i've lots of tiny scraps that i don't want to chuck out.

I forgot to show my pineapple lily the other day. They are flowering well this season.

Challenge update, a finish, Zoom & flowers

Many years ago i came across an author who wrote some quilt novels & then pattern books were put out to match the books. One of the characters in the novel, a great grandmother had started making Sunbonnet Sue blocks using things her great granddaughter liked. Sadly before the quilt was finished the grand daughter passed away. When the pattern book came out that's how the blocks were presented. Only 6 blocks.

I could never figure what to do with them & every now & again i would get them out & then back away they would go. I put them on my list as number 6 & low & behold that was the number for January. So i Googled for ideas & found something that would work But the blocks are 9" finished so i would've had a long narrow handing.

I had thought of making 3 more blocks to  make a 9 patch hanging but i really didn't want to make repeats & nothing else Sue related appealed to me. I went with simple 9 patch blocks & turned it all into a runner.

Now to quilt it. :)

I had just started turning this stitchery into a top when i got an email about Zoom. So i quickly got the borders & binding on. Not entirely a finish as the binding needs to be stitched down but at least it's now 1 less thing on the UFO pile :)
So what to do on ZOOM? Another ufo i abandoned years ago. I did it as a block of the month. All 9 blocks were done but the rest of the months were borders. I got it out maybe a year or so ago & tried to iron the  pattern on but nothing was lining up properly despite my best efforts so i gave up. About 6 months back i got it out again & hand traced all the borders out. Hopefully now i made a start i'll keep at until the borders are done.

I had a little surprise this week. I'd notice a bud forming on my white desert rose & it finally opened the other day
I didn't think it was going to flower at all this season. It looks like there is another bud too. The big desert rose has seed pods. I'm hoping to get seed & try growing them myself.
They are huge pods. I've also been surprised at the Achimene as it is still flowering & so many blooms

FNwF January

Yesterday i started FNwF very early. I wanted to get the 6 stitcheries from the Christmas club made up into hangings.

All ready for an evening of binding.

1 done & a 2nd nearly completed but the last corner wouldn't work. I hadn't realised that a seam in the binding was close to the corner so i had  to reverse sew everything. :)

Pop over to visit Cheryll to see who joined in last night.
