FNSI September

Well another month is nearly gone by. Just 100 days until Christmas & then 2024 will be here. Next year is a big "0" year for me. :) but i digress. Yesterday was FNSI hosted by Wendy.  I had plans but like all good intentions that went out the window. :(

My project was the 3rd in Fig n Berry's Christmas club stitcheries.

Ably assisted by my furry companion. lol.
And where i left it at bedtime.

Another bulb has flowered, it's a sparaxis.

As i didn't get the tags made up so i've no idea what's in the pots now. :) 4 jonquils flowered but still only had one daffodil. :(
and the dwarf Brunsfelsia is flowering.

Mystery bulb solved.......

......... & do i feel a bit silly? Yes i do. Lol.  I should've known what it was by the flower spike but it just never occurred to me. I'll put it down to old age. :) :)

Turns out the bulbs are Freesias. Of course they are as Mum used to have them growing in the area i pulled the snowflake bulbs from. 2 flowers have opened on the spike & they smell divine.

So happy i got to have some Freesias this season after all.

Halloween.....

......shopping. I wanted to get some Halloween fabrics & as the local patchwork shop had nothing Spotlight was next. Well if i wanted Christmas fabrics ect plenty of that there. I finally found the Halloween fabrics but didn't care much for the choice on the bolts. I found a box of pre packaged fat 1/4's & they each had pieces i really wanted so i grabbed the 3 bundles i liked. Though i wasn't keen on the price of them (~.

On the way out the daughter i was with spotted the display of Halloween goodies & i found a white pumpkin to bring home with me. Everything was marked 20% off so the fabrics didn't cost me as much as they would have at full price. Yay a win for me. :)

Whilst in the shopping centre we popped into TK Maxx to see what Halloween goodies were in there. I bought the black pumpkin & a cute little ghost

& found a cute pumpkin patterned bag at Spotties to bring it all home in.

Also from TK Maxx a table cloth

& from Spotties a sticky thing for the window
Now i'd better make the wallhanging i bought the fabric for. :)

Stuff....

not a lot of sewing going on here sadly. :(

I started a new jigsaw last week & although i quite like the company & the jigsaw they make this one was giving me the fits. Even my daughter who likes to help me  put them together kept saying "i don't like this". It's the first time i've ever had to build a jigsaw from the inside out. The pattern the used to cut the pieces in this particular one is terrible other wise i love the picture itself.

I bit the bullet so to speak & bought a bottle of vodka to make Limencello so that has been started.

Disappointed that very few of the many bulbs i planted flowered. This little bloom came out the other day
When i was digging bulbs from Mum's garden some mystery ones came up with them. They looked like mini gladioli bulbs. Still don't know what they are as this is what has sprouted from them

Still waiting for it to open. The one leaning right has to blooms on it & the one leaning left has one. I hope they open soon so i can find out what i brought home with me.

FNwF September.

I started FNwF by going to the patchwork shop

these came home with me. :). Then off to the quilt show. Lots of lovely quilts on display. Sorry no photo's. I did see a churn dash there by a lady i know who did the sew along with Chooky. It was nice to see it in real life.

Also there was a little knick knack stall, book stall, plant stall & a hand made goods stall/s. Also on offer was tea, coffee & cake. Whilst chatting to a lady i know & browsed the hand made goodies on sale & found this
I've been wanting a clapper for a while. So glad to have found one locally. It's quite heavy so i better be careful i don't drop it on my toe. lol

For my sewing i stitched the binding on this quilt.
Not much left, just this corner & about half way along the bottom edge to do. Oh & sew down the hanging sleeve & label. :)

Pop over to visit Cheryll out lovely hostess so see who joined in for FNwF.

Churn Dash....

.......is done. I finished the binding Wednesday night & gave it a wash yesterday. It feels all nice & soft now. :) Started as sew along June 2022 by Chookyblue i did get the top finished by October. Beautiful quilting by Fiona was recently done.

Now i'm off to a local quilt show before doing some stitching for FNwF.

Tail Feather....

..... is done finally. I started stitching the applique & embroidery about 2014, stopped & started again early 2016. I started putting rows together June 2016. That was it until i saw a finished one on Instagram back in 2020 & thought "time to get it finished off". After putting all the blocks together i went to add borders & found i didn't have the fabric. Grrr. A quick post online & a good friend said she had the matching fabric. Yay, i was so thankful. May 2020 saw Tail Feathers as a flimsy.

A while back i sent it away to Fiona to work her quilting magic. Back it came beautifully quilted & i finally sat myself down 2 evenings ago to start hand stitching the binding down.

After a wash & dry it is now hanging in the dining room. Now to finish binding the churn dash quilt. :)

Another jigsaw done.

A new jigsaw arrived on Tuesday. I started it that day & was just pottering at it but today i had a helper & it was completed before i had planned for it. :)

FNSI August

My day for FNSI started early. I put binding on 3 large quilts

I stacked them ready to take a photo & someone thought they were for her. Anyway they are ready for a binge session on Netflix/Disney to handsew those bindings.

Next i pulled 2 Christmas stitcheries out of my basket of small ufo's to complete

Then a Zoom session last night with Chookyblue saw those bindings handstitched down

Now to see what is next on the list to finish. :)

quilt jigsaw

The latest 100 piece jigsaw arrived yesterday but i didn't realise when ordering it that the pieces are super sized. I only found out when reading the box. When laying out the border i discovered just how large it would be. Almost double the size of my regular 1000 piece puzzles.

When life gives you lemons.......

your make lemon meringue pie. :) :)

and it hardly made a dent in the basketful. I think there is maybe 20-25 more lemons on the tree. I was going to make Limoncello until i saw how much the vodka had gone up in price. :(

It's a lovely sunny day here, more like summer than autumn so i thought i'd take some photo's of what is blooming in my garden

dahlias

osteospermums with sweet william in the photo above.
azaleas, 3 of them belonged to my Mum

some bulbs. Snowdrop from my Mum's garden(top photo) & a jonquil i've given a try this year.
can't remember the name of this bush but i love the little flowers one it.

And lastly a little surprise for me, a sweet pea bloom. When i watered the other day i didn't notice any buds so it was a happy find in my little garden. I didn't think i'd get any as i was rather lax in planting out so of the punnet only 2 survived. The flowering one has grown maybe 15" but the other has only grown about 6".

FNwF August

It was FNwF yesterday hosted by Cheryll.  I decided to make the RSC blocks for August, yellow fabrics having been chosen earlier in the week i started with the bowties.

Those 6 finished & as i'm pressing them thought "hmmm something is wrong with these" Darn i made white bow ties not yellow ones. :( Now to find a use for them.

Back to the cutting mat i go making sure i cut 2" yellow squares this time. :)
Those correctly done i moved on to making the churn dash blocks. No wrong cutting with those but i did only cut 2 yellow rectangles per block instead of 4. :) I was beginning to think i shouldn't have been sewing at all. That being an easy fix i proceeded with sewing.
By that time i'd had enough of sewing. Lol.  I just pottered around for a while & then in the evening i started the 2nd Christmas hanging that arrived yesterday morning. From Fig n Berry creations Christmas club.

quilt jigsaw

I started the last of my quilt jigsaws sometime Wednesday & had almost all the bottom 1/4 done by the time i went to bed. Yesterday afternoon/evening was spent completing it.

Now i better get back to making my own quilts instead of doing jigsaws about them. :) As the new Homespun is out i'd better get the blocks done for Owl & Hare Hollow.

Jigsaws

A couple of years back i started a jigsaw but put it away for some reason, then i lost the use of my dining table/room for a year or so but the other day i finally got the table/room back. Hmm i think i'll get that jigsaw out & finally finish it off. I think i had about a 1/4 done when put away. It took 2 days & a bit of frustration with the top left corner but it is done!!

Now to do the last one of a range of quilt jigsaws i bought about 4 years ago.

a nice surprise

Watering my pot plants today i found that my daffodils had started to flower.

First one in quite a while. I used to grow bulbs many years ago but lost most of them over time from moving house/s. This year my sister & i discussed planting bulbs on Mum's gravesite & i got the urge to try growing bulbs again. It looks like all the bulbs i planted are sprouting. :) Now to wait patiently for the jonquils, freesias & a variety of others to bloom.

The second surprise was from a Zygo i had bought a few months back. One bloom & a couple of others getting ready to open.

Even though spring is still a month away it was nice to see something that reminds me of spring coming to life.

FNSI July

My project to work on for FNSI hosted by Wendy was a Bronwyn Hayes stitchery from many years ago. A series of 6 i think. I bought 2 or 3 off a friend several year back & then when my SIL passed i found the rest in her things. I've stitched 2 & this is number 3.

Where i started last night

and where i ended up by bed time. Not a lot, just the doily, around the pink flowers & started the satin stitch & french knots

FNwF July.....

and just like that 6 months has gone by & here we are having Julys FNwF hosted by our lovely Cheryll  I'm afraid to blink in case it's turned into December when i open my eyes back up. :) :).

Recently Lisa of Fig N Berry creations asked on her FB page if anyone was interested in a Christmas Club. Of course i signed up straight away. lol. First instalment sent out July 1st.  I should be working on getting those ufo's under control but i couldn't resist starting.

Where i was up to at the start of stitching last night.

and where i had gotten to by bedtime. The project came with border fabric so it can be turned into a hanging without having to wait on the next stitcheries to complete it.
