Saturday sewing & prep work

Temecula Quilt Company is having a quilt along making a quirky little quilt & i've joined in.

The first blocks chosen for the quilt were the Shoofly blocks.

These blocks measure 3-1/2 inches. I wonder what next weeks blocks will be? All i can say is that they will be 3-1/2" too. :)

After sewing these i got out some little Christmas decoration kits i bought last year & prepped them ready to sew.

Table runner

I'd completed the hand quilting on my Christmas tablerunner but decided i really didn't like it so some reverse sewing was in order. I machine quilted it today and I'm much happier with result.

Busy sewing week.

Hmm where to start.

Ahh with Hannah & Harrington of course. I finished stitching the remaining blocks & yesterday i put them together & added to the top of the quilt. I then frantically checked all my fabric for borders hoping i could use stash fabric & not have to go buy any. Couldn't find enough of the black at first & decided to try one last place & found a large piece of black homespun I'd bought for some other project that never got made. So a happy dance was in order for that find. :)

All done ready to be quilted sometime in the future. Ticked another ufo/wip off the list Though it's now on another list - the"to be quilted" list. :) :)

Wednesday i got out another felt kit & prepped it. I think i bought it back in 2012

I still have to trace the stitchery that goes with it. My light box has disappeared into my daughters room. :)

My next Christmas BOM arrive that day so i ironed it onto my background fabric ready to stitch
I managed some that night.

On Wednesday i also finished Boo Cat off

& put border on this little hanging which i then hand quilted. I added the binding yesterday.

Yesterday also saw this little project put together & the hand quilting started last night
Not sure if i like the way the thread stands out or not.

And finally some happy mail arrived all the way from the US. The doll quilt from the swap has finally arrived & there may have been some excited yelling involved especially when i found chocolate at the bottom of the box. :) :)

The lady who made it stalked me well. Also included were these extras.

FNSI March

Yesterday I joined in with lovely hostess Wendy & 21 other ladies for FNSI

In the afternoon i turned on Netflix & got to cutting out 3/4" hexagons for a project. I've joined in with a small group of ladies to swap medallions once a month. After 12 months we each should have 24. We make 2 a month, sending one & keeping the other.
Small as they are they still took me quite a while to make. :)

My bunnies got a look in for a bit of sewing before bedtime. I finished both rabbits, the thing they are standing on & started on the apple.

I had planned to go out to the local patchwork shop today to celebrate National Quilting Day as the owner is holding an EPP day there but since we have now got some rain happening i think i'll stay home where it is warm & cosy & sew here.

Pop over to visit Wendy to find the links to who joined in & what projects they worked on.

sewing.

The last 2 weeks since i posted have zipped by & I keep forgetting to post about what i've been working on.

I've done the 2 blocks for March of Gail Pan's Christmas BOM.

I had to wait a few days to get the thread for the bonus project & now they are waiting to be turned into the runner.
The thread is a Cottage Garden one called Earl Grey,

A few of weeks ago i pulled out a kit i bought many years ago & cut it all out. It's now finished.
2nd photo shows the colour better.
Made just in time for Autumn. :) That's one kit marked off my kit list only about 20 odd more to go. lol.

I've put a few more stitches in this project i showed in last post.

& last night started on this block from Hannah & Harrington.

FNwF March

How can it be March already ??????

Yesterday/last night i joined our lovely hostess Cheryll & 17 other lovely ladies for FNwF & my first project was to put a binding on my doll quilt i made & hand quilted last weekend.

I'd put the felt applique on these little blocks on Wednesday & they just needed the border fabrics so i could place the holly in the corners of the 2 elf blocks.

That done i dragged out an old UFO to finish adding border pieces & applique to. This one is from 2012.
First i sewed the completed blocks together then added the border row across the bottom

Laying the blocks out on the bed to place the fabric squares around for placement before sewing seemed to be an open invitation to some small furry critters.
Just 4 blocks needed to have the squares sewn around. So very slack, why didn't i finish this years ago.
Then i had to cut out the felt applique for 3 blocks as the apple one had been done back in 2012. :)
All attached now & with a furry photo bomber. :)

Now to the evening & that saw me sewing the binding down by hand to the doll quilt
All done & first finish for March. I got a bit slack with sewing after that & only put a few stitches in an embroidery i'm doing.

2 little finishes.

The binding is sewn down on my little wallhanging from my last post so i can add that to my finishes for February with a few days to spare. :)

I've also restitched the block i stuffed up trimming back & added the borders

And the little table topper i'd put together also in my last post has been quilted & bound.

Yay another finish for me. :).

At night i've been stitching Fig 'n' Berry's Christmas BOM for 2019.
Nearly done.

FNSI February

Yesterday i joined in with 22 ladies for Friday Night Sew In. Thanks to Wendy our lovely hostess for having us over again.

I started reasonably early whilst it was still cool to put the binding on my big quilt. I was a little out on size it's about 80" by 90 ". My brain got confused as the blocks are 10 " & i though i'd done 10 blocks by 10 blocks not 8 blocks by 9 blocks. :)
I had to turn my table sideways so my bed could support the weight of the quilt.
All that was left of the binding.

Meanwhile Lil P thought my insert box was for her.
Silly kitty. :)

Next i pieced some backing together & fixed a couple of twisted seams on a quilt top ready for quilting.
Boring i know but it needed to be done. I thought i'd bought it wide enough but the top was a little bigger than i remembered.

My Christmas BOM blocks came next but i stuffed up trimming one so now i have to stitch it again. The borders were added to this one & a line drwnw to add the last bit of stitching.

I'd finished the 4 little bonus project stitcheries on Friday night so they were made into the top yesterday as well.
Ready to quilt.

I took one project from the small project ufo pile to finish.
All ready to have the binding sewn down.

One last project to work on & time to take a break.
New Christmas BOM from Fig N Berry Creations arrived yesterday.

But before i could turn that machine of some boring clothes repairs needed doing too.:) :).

I started hand sewing the binding down at about 2:30 pm. With a few breaks during that time i finished at around 7pm.
All done. :) :) With thanks to Fiona for her beautiful quilting. I love the all over swirls that was done. I tried to hang the quilt on the clothesline to take photos but discovered the wind up mechanism is broken so on the ground the quilt went.

Meanwhile after finishing the binding i went to do the label & someone though the quilt was there for her to hide in.

Since the binding didn't take as long to do as i thought it would i finished the border stitching on thisd block.

Then the quilting on my little Christmas table topper.

Tuesday Sewing

Even though it was hot yesterday i wanted to get some sewing done as i needed to make binding for my big scrappy quilt that was recently quilted. It took a while to cut & sew all the strips together. Sewing the binding onto the quilt will have to wait for cooler weather.
I measured it & there is about 8-1/2 metres of binding here. From memory the quilt is about 100" by 100".

Then i cut the binding for my doll quilt as it's only small that twas a quick job. :)

By then it was to hot to sit at the machine so off to the lounge i went. Fan on & Knightfall on Netflix to hand sew the binding down. Sure wish sewing the binding onto the big quilt goes as quick as it did sewing the binding onto the doll quilt which measures 12" square.

That done i finished embroidery this block from part 2 of Gail Pan's Christmas BOM

Gail always gives us a project using one of the stitcheries. This month is a little table topper. I started 1 of the 4 pieces needed.

Don't think there will be any sewing today as it is supposed to be 40 degrees here. Might be a day for reading under the air conditioner in my bedroom. :)

Happy Stitching,

Sourdough adventures

Recently i was talking to my son about getting some starter & having a go at making my own bread. I'd been going to order a starter...
