Chookshed Stitcher's Challenge #5 update

Monday saw the borders going on my project for the challenge & that was some fun & games. :) Then i glue basted it & left it overnight to dry. Tuesday i was all set for a day of quilting & binding. By night time i was done.:)  After that i could make a start on sewing this months RSC. :) Hopefully they'll be done by Friday.

My project went from this

to this

Freshly washed. I had to soak it because despite being packed away it had marks on it. I tipped the water out this morning after soaking overnight & imagine my horror when i saw the water was purplish. I hoped like crazy that i hadn't exchanged dirty marks for purple marks. It looks like a stain along the top but it isn't, it's just what is hanging behind on the clothesline.

I threw in a couple of dye catchers & they soaked up any dye that was there.
Thanks Deana for the encouragement to get the pesky ufo's moving along out of the way. :) Now to wait for Junes number.

Nine patch Sunday.

I let myself get waaaayyy behind with the nine patches & kicked myself for doing so.  I had 60 blocks to make so yesterday i got stuck into them.

3-1/2"

2"
2"
Saturday night i pulled out the Christmas bom to finish the satin stitch. Not much was left but i was distracted by making Lucy blocks. :) :)
Now to trim & put together. I ran out of thread when i started doing the borders so i ordered 4 more skeins & i was getting a wee bit worried it wasn't enough as i was on the last skein by the time i'd done all 4 borders. Here is what is left.
I do use only one thread when stitching & 2 for french knots & satin stitch otherwise i would've needed 3 times the amount of skeins for the whole quilt.

Now to find a new project to stitch. :) :)

FNSI May

The day started early for FNSI with me pulling out red, purple, pink & green fabrics to make cracker box blocks.

During a break i was reading blogs & Fiona posted about making bowl cosies. A good reminder that i'd been wanting to make some. Well 1 at least. :)

It won't win any prizes that's for sure. My machine did not like top stitching through all that thickness. Next time i'll follow the suggestion of making the wadding a wee bit smaller than the fabric. That suggestion should've been written at the top of the instructions not added in way at the bottom. :~

The evening saw me making another Lucy block.

Stitching & flowers.

 I've managed another Lucy block

Stitching madly away at the last border for 12 days of Christmas though i took a break to sew the above block

Just the present on the end left & then the satin stitch. Finally after many years of it languishing i can put it together. :)

Then today whilst on Zoom i prepped another Lucy block

My daughter bought me Chrysanthemums in pots for Mothers Day last year & i planted them in the front garden. The look wonderful this year all spread out covered in blooms.

They spread a little more than i expected so i need to try & rescue 2 carnation plants & possibly a lavender from that area.

When cleaning out Mum's home after she passed away there were still a few pot plants hanging around. 2 pots had achimenes in them & i think they both did flower after i brought them back. Noticing a lack of growth in them i thought i'd have to chuck them out but one started shooting leaves up this year. I checked the other pot but couldn't find any little bulbs/corms. Now the surviving one has flowered.
I was so pleased it grew as they have quite lovely little blooms.

FNwF May.

Last night was FNwF hosted by lovely Cheryll

Thursday night i dragged out the box containing the Lucy blocks & started piecing one together. Here is where i was at

& by bed time
I really need to sew faster. :) Though to be honest it's been quite a while since i had Lucy out. I  now have 21 blocks & the quilt has 58. Not sure though if i want to make that many, we'll see.
